Nanospun Technologies

Technology Offering

SmartFibers Technology

What is it?

This is a microbial encapsulation technology, licensed out of the Technion Israel Institute of Technology. Unlike other encapsulation and immobilization technologies, such as Microvi and Lentikats, which use a carrier-bead in a fluidized bed, Nanospun use a fibrous-mesh / flat-sheet mat type configuration to encapsulate the bacteria. The technology encapsulates cells within electro-spun polymer fibres. Nanospun does not provide the bacteria and will partner with Biotech firms for this. They are also looking to partner with systems integrators. The company is targeting multiple applications with the platform, including biofuels, medical and healthcare and within water, is focused on tertiary polishing for difficult to remove contaminants, such as perchlorate as well as nitrate removal and hydrocarbon removal.
